original story if a bit slow paced at first

Great, original story set concomitantly in a fantasy world and a distant future, both dystopias. In many ways, it seemed like a classic, a bit like Harry Potter, though a bit more mature and with an original concept behind it. I was surprised to hear Vivian Amberville is actually a contemporary fantasy franchise.
Knocked off two stars because it's a bit slow paced at the beginning. It does pick up afterwards, though, and the payoff in part 3 is more than gratifying, but I dunno. I just like my stories to be fast paced through and through
