Reinvents the sci-fi and fantasy genres.

There are many books released each year in every conceivable genre and combination of genres. As Sturgeon's Law famously put it, 90% of everything is crap. There's another 5-10% that's readable but uninspiring and a small percentage of books that are actually really good. Every now and then, however, a book comes along that's a game changer. It sets the mold for the next generation of authors to follow. If you look at the young adult fantasy books that have come out over the last 20 years, the influence of Harry Potter is undeniable. Harry Potter was a game changer and now, Vivian Amberville is *the* game changer.
I don't want to give away any of the story because every reader deserves to experience it with fresh eyes. All I can say is I'm happy to see so many rich and thought-provoking ideas in a gripping story that will appeal to people of all ages. There's so much pandering and cliched material aimed at young readers and Vivian Amberville proves you don't have to dumb things down to tell a highly entertaining story. The unique combination of action and ideas is what makes it a game changer.
