Ah, where to begin?
Vivian Amberville cannot be compared to other fantasy stories because it has no precedent. Sure it gets close to J.K.Rowling's character-building charm and Tolkien's world-building level and Sir Terry Pratchett's humour, but it's something completely trippy and at the same time philosophical and deeply meaningful.
